Title: On the relation between abstract and structured probabilistic argumentation
Abstract:
In the last decade various abstract models of probabilistic argumentation have been proposed. However, little work has been done on instantiating these models with structured argumentation. In this talk I discuss how Hunter & Thimm’s epistemic approach to abstract probabilistic argumentation (KR 2016, JAIR 2017) can be instantiated with an account of argumentation with defeasible generalisations. A notion of probabilistic argument strength will be proposed and it will be discussed to what extent this notion can be used to resolve conflicts between arguments. The instantiation will be formalised in the ASPIC+ framework for structured argumentation.
